Japan: Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issues administrative guidance to LINE Yahoo!

On April 16, 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (the Ministry) issued an administrative guidance to LINE Yahoo! Corporation, requesting the early implementation of measures outlined in its administrative guidance dated March 5, 2024, as well as reporting on its implementation status and plan.

Administrative guidance dated March 5, 2024

On March 5, 2024, the Ministry issued administrative guidance to LINE Yahoo! on measures to protect the confidentiality of communications and ensure cybersecurity in light of the breach it suffered. In this administrative guidance, the Ministry requested that the following measures be taken:

  • a fundamental review and reinforcement of security management measures and subcontractor management based on the incident;

  • a fundamental review and reinforcement of security governance throughout the group, including the parent company; and

  • the provision of appropriate information regarding the incident.

Additionally, LINE Yahoo! must provide reports to the Ministry.
