Summary: The Law was published, on 15 July 2020, in the Official Gazette, and entered into force on 15 October 2020. The Law has similarities with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) ('GDPR') and includes data subject rights, data controller and processor obligations as well as strict conditions for data transfers to foreign countries. The Law is the overarching, central legal document for privacy issues. Egypt has already adopted sector-specific regulations that touch upon privacy issues and that continue to be in force.
