Iceland: Parliament amends Media Act regarding processing of children's data

On March 12, 2024, the Icelandic Parliament passed an Act amending the Media Act, no. 38/2011. In particular, the Act outlines that personal data of children, collected or generated by media providers, cannot be processed for commercial purposes, such as for direct marketing or the creation and use of personalized advertisements.

Furthermore, the Act states that violations regarding the processing of personal data are governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the supervision, including the issuance of penalties, is carried out by the Icelandic data protection authority (Persónuvernd).

You can read the Act  here, only available in Icelandic.
