Washington: Bill on establishing AI task force passes both houses

On March 4, 2024, Senate Bill 5838 on establishing an Artificial Intelligence Task Force passed the Washington State Senate after passing the Washington House of Representatives on February 29, 2024. In particular, the Senate concurred with the House amendments. More specifically, the bill aims to establish a task force to assess the current uses and trends and make recommendations to the Legislature regarding guidelines and potential legislation for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

The bill will now be sent to the Governor for signature to become law.
