Utah: Bill for Social Media Regulation Amendments passes third reading and sent for enrollment

On February 29, 2024, Senate Bill 194 for the Social Media Regulation Amendments was signed by the Speaker of the Utah House of Representatives and the President of the Utah State Senate and was sent to be enrolled on the same date, after being read for the third time by the House on February 28, 2024, following its passage by the Senate on February 21, 2024. The bill must be signed by the Governor of Utah before its passage.

In particular, the bill outlines requirements for social media companies to implement age verification systems, parental controls on accounts held by Utah minors, and principles including privacy by default.

If enacted, the bill will become effective on October 1, 2024.
