South Korea: PIPC requests submissions regarding use of pseudonymous information

On April 1, 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that it has begun investigating the use of pseudonymous information in various fields including health care, welfare, and finance. The PIPC stated it is accepting submissions regarding the leading cases of combining pseudonymized information. The PIPC stated it hopes to discover research topics with the survey results. 

The PIPC highlighted that the target areas for submission results include: 

  • academia;

  • central administrative agencies;

  • local governments;

  • public institutions;

  • specialized organizations;

  • pseudonym information utilization support centers; 

  • data utilization and holding institutions; and 

  • private enterprise associations.

Submissions will be accepted until April 30, 2024, and can be submitted through the pseudonym information support platform at dataprivacy.go.kr.
