South Korea: PIPC announces investigation into World Coin following complaints

On March 4, 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that on February 29, 2024, it began an investigation into WorldCoin and other organizations. The investigation began after complaints were received regarding the collection and processing of personal information by World Coin in South Korea. The PIPC stated that it tends to investigate the collection and processing of sensitive information and the overseas transfer of personal information. The PIPC also highlighted that if violations are confirmed, the PIPC will take action as prescribed by relevant laws and regulations.
