Russia: Roskomnadzor announces unregistered hosting providers are prohibited from offering hosting services

On February 1, 2024, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) announced that from that date hosting providers that have not registered with the Roskomnadzor are prohibited from offering hosting services in Russia, although the legislation does not provide any administrative liability. The announcement follows the introduction of new requirements for hosting providers that came into effect in December 2023.

The Roskomnadzor further noted that, from February 1, 2024, organizations that aim to provide hosting services in Russia must submit a notice of commencement of activities before the provision of hosting services, via a dedicated channel accessible here.
