International: White House issues statement on US and UK partnership on prize challenges for advancing privacy-enhancing technology

The U.S. White House released, on 8 December 2021, a statement on the planned joint partnership between the US and UK on innovation prize challenges focused on advancing privacy-enhancing technologies ('PETs'). In particular, the White House statement notes that, '[PETs] present an important opportunity to harness the power of data in a manner that protects privacy and intellectual property, enabling cross-border and cross-sector collaboration to solve shared challenges'. As such, the White Statement outlines that the collaboration was announced as part of a series of International Grand Challenges on Democracy-Affirming Technologies, during the Summit for Democracy, where the prize challenges will aim to overcome technical gaps and adoption challenges related to PETs, and by bringing together top minds from both countries on building viable solutions, and to help mature and facilitate adoption of these technologies.
