Germany: BSI publishes minimum standard for video conferencing services
The Federal Office for Information Security ('BSI') announced, on 20 October 2021, that it had published a new minimum standard on securing video conferencing services, following the release of a draft and the launch of a public consultation on the same in March 2021.
In particular, the BSI highlighted that the minimum standard outlines the security requirements that federal agencies should observe in the planning, operation, and use of video conferencing services, recognising that the widespread use of such services since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic entails multiple risks for information security, including cyberattacks.
In addition, the BSI noted that the minimum standard takes into account various operating models, such as self-hosted and externally hosted services, given how diverse the implementation of video conferencing services can be in practice, also emphasising the importance of a holistic approach to information security management.
