Armenia: Commission announces plans to develop data retention standards

The Public Services Regulatory Commission of the Republic of Armenia ('the Commission') announced, on 21 October 2019, its plans to develop data retention standards ('the Standards') for information held by internet service providers ('ISPs'). In particular, the Commission highlighted that the Standards will establish special rules and procedures for data retention, based on international best practices, which will allow law enforcement authorities to access relevant information for the protection of national security.

The Commission noted that it will release the Standards for public consultation after receiving comments from over 170 ISPs, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, and the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia.
