Uzbekistan: Cabinet adopts sanctions for non-compliance with data localisation requirement
The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan published, on 30 April 2021, amendments to Resolution of 5 September 2018 No. 707 on Measures to Further Improve Information Security on the World Wide Web. In particular, the amendments enable regulators to restrict access to the online resources of controllers and processors who violate the recently introduced data localisation requirements without a court order. In addition, these amendments may involve blocking websites or limiting connection speed, if the controller or processor is unable to rectify within a specified period. Furthermore, the amendments establish a dedicated registry of violators and set out procedures by which the State Centre for Personalisation may coordinate with the State Inspectorate for Control in the Field of Informatisation and Telecommunications to restrict access.
Notably, the amendments enter into force on the same day of publication.
