USA: Georgia Pines notifies OCR of data security incident

Georgia Pines CSB notified, on 8 April 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ('HHS') Office for Civil Rights ('OCR') of a data security incident affecting 24,000 individuals. In particular, Georgia Pines stated that, on 7 April 2022, two secured laptops were stolen from their main campus, and although Georgia Pines noted that it had no evidence that information had been accessed or used by an unauthorised individual, affected information includes names, addresses, social security numbers, and medical records.

Moreover, Georgia Pines noted that it was working closely with local law enforcement and investigators to find the responsible individual, and to ensure that measures are in place to mitigate future incidents.
