Saudi Arabia: SDAIA advances in AI development with new international center for research

On November 16, 2023, the Saudi Data & Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) announced that the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO) had approved the establishment of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence and Ethics (ICAIRE) as a second-category international center. 

Goals for AI development in Saudi Arabia's ICAIRE

The SDAIA further noted that ICAIRE will focus its work on four areas:

  • providing support in research and development in the field of artificial intelligence (AI);
  • enhancing awareness and communication regarding AI ethics;
  • providing recommendations related to AI policies, as well as building AI capabilities; and
  • contributing to global efforts that serve humanity in the field of AI.
