Israel: Bar Association publishes opinion on use of AI by lawyers
On May 7, 2024, the Israel Bar Association published an opinion on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by lawyers. The opinion highlights the risks of AI and provides certain recommendations for lawyers.
The opinion notes that the use of AI by lawyers may lead to a violation of the duty of confidentiality and leakage of private and confidential information of the client. The opinion recommends lawyers to, among other things:
- individually check the reliability of the information presented in the output of the AI platforms;
- use AI platforms only for theoretical or general queries;
- avoid entering the following personal information associated or may be associated with the client such as name, address, trademarks, business partners, family history, etc.; and
- obtain client's explicit consent before using their personal information in AI systems.
