Iran: MICEX outlines plans for cyberspace management

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ('MICEX') announced, on 15 July 2020, its plans to manage the cyberspace in order to prevent cybercrime and develop a cyberinfrastructure which encourages content production and services. In particular, MICEX noted its plans to adopt further legislation to regulate the cyberspace and to address the current weaknesses in, among other things, determining the liability of IT service providers, managing electronic transactions and protecting personal data in the cyberspace. In addition, MICEX highlighted that, in collaboration with the Islamic Parliament Research Centre, it has conducted comprehensive studies and has drafted the required bills, including the ICT Service Providers Liability Bill, the Draft Protection and Protection of Personal Data Law, the Electronic Governance Bill, and the Electronic Transactions Bill.
