Washington: Bill on establishing an AI task force passes Ways & Means Committee

On February 5, 2024, Senate Bill 5838 on establishing an Artificial Intelligence Task Force was passed by the Committee on Ways & Means and thereafter on February 7, 2024, was sent to the Rules Committee for second reading. The bill establishes a task force that will assess trends as well as the development and use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) by private and public sector entities and make recommendations to the legislature regarding standards for the use and regulation of generative AI systems to protect Washingtonians' safety, privacy, and civil and intellectual property rights.
