Uzbekistan: Amendments to personal data law introduces data localisation requirements

Law of 14 January 2021 No. ЗРУ-666 on Amendments and Additions to Some Legislative Acts was published, on 15 January 2021, in the national legislative database. In particular, the law amends Law of 2 July 2019 No. ЗРУ-547 on Personal Data to introduce new data localisation requirements. More specifically, the law provides that the personal data of Uzbek citizens must be processed using technical means located on the territory of Uzbekistan and stored on databases registered with the State Personalisation Centre of Uzbekistan. Furthermore, these requirements apply to all types of data processing, including operations carried out using information technology and via the internet.

Such data localisation requirements will enter into force three months from the date of publication on 16 April 2021.

You can read the amendments here and a consolidated version of the Law on Personal Data here, both only available in Uzbek and Russian.
