USA: Wyoming Department of Health notifies OCR of data security incident
The Wyoming Department of Health ('the DoH') notified, on 29 April 2021, the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Civil Rights ('OCR') of a privacy incident involving 164,010 individuals which the OCR is now investigating. In particular, the DoH noted that, among other things, health information was impermissibly disclosed to a third-party, GitHub.com, and inadvertently disclosed to unauthorised individuals on GitHub's public site. In addition, the DoH highlighted that the exposed health information included COVID-19 and Influenza test data, names or patient ID, addresses, dates of birth, test results, and dates of service.
