USA: Trinity Health issues notice of Accellion data security incident

Trinity Health issued, on 5 April 2021, a notice to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office for Civil Rights ('OCR') and to customers confirming that it was impacted by the data security incident affecting Accellion, Inc., whose File Transfer Appliance is used by Trinity Health. In particular, Trinity Health noted that the files involved contained certain protected health information, including some combination of demographic, clinical, and financial information, such as names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, healthcare providers, dates and types of health care services, medical record numbers, among others. In addition, the notice highlights that Trinity Health had posted letters to potentially affected customers which include steps on how to protect personal information, and provide both a contact email and a phone number for any queries.

You can read the notice here and access the details on the OCR portal here.
