Russia: Roskomnadzor adds Discord and Yappy to the register of social networks

On March 12, 2024, the Federal Service for the Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) announced that it had added Discord and Yappy to the register of social networks, pursuant to Federal Law No. 530-FZ which has been in force since February 2021.

The Roskomnadzor noted that, according to Federal Law No. 530-FZ, internet platforms are required to independently identify and block illegal content, and to have a feedback form for user complaints about the posting of such content. Moreover, to quickly remove prohibited materials posted on social networks, the Roskomnadzor highlighted that it interacts with internet resource moderation services.
