Panama: National Assembly approves draft data protection law during third debate

The Panama National Assembly ('the National Assembly') approved, on 26 October 2018, Draft Law No. 665 on the Protection of Personal Data ('the Draft Law') during third debate. In particular, the Draft Law seeks to protect individuals' personal data provided to various platforms, and establishes that such data cannot be shared with third parties without the express authorisation of the data subject, or due to a judicial investigation. The Draft Law would also prohibit the sale of personal data.

The National Assembly noted that, two years after the Draft Law's promulgation, the National Authority of Transparency and Access to Information would be responsible for the further development of the Draft Law.
