Pakistan: SECP and PTA collaborate on safer digital and cyber landscape

On July 22, 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) issued a press release, wherein the Chairman of the SECP held a meeting with the Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to, among other things, enhance collaboration between their departments to make Pakistan's digital landscape secure.

According to the SECP, the SECP and PTA decided to formalize their collaboration through the signing of a memorandum of understanding to deal with issues falling within their respective regulatory space. Furthermore, the SECP and PTA agreed to set up a joint monitoring and reporting mechanism for illegal lending apps and the SECP informed the PTA that it is building a cybersecurity framework. Additionally, the SECP and the PTA agreed to launch a joint awareness campaign about illegal digital lending app risks in Pakistan.
