Iran: MICEX issues statement on Big Data and AI research and activities

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of Iran ('MICEX') issued, on 1 April 2020, a statement on Big Data, artificial intelligence ('AI'), and the industry-wide tendency to use personalised services. In particular, MICEX highlighted that the application of Big Data on, among other things, optimised traffic management and smart city building, identification of network threats in the information and communications technology ('ICT') industry, Internet of Things ('IoT'), as well as the identification of suspects and individuals. In addition, MICEX outlined that the activities of researchers in the Iranian Telecommunication Research Centre aim at designing a smart system based on bulk processing of data and AI.
