EU: Commission welcomes adoption of European Health Data Space Regulation by the Parliament

On April 24, 2024, the European Commission announced that it welcomed the adoption of the European Health Data Space Regulation (EHDS Regulation) by the European Parliament.

Aims of the EHDS Regulation

The EHDS Regulation aims to:

  • grant citizens full control over their health data; and

  • allow the use of health data for research and public health purposes under strict conditions.

Next steps

The Council will formally adopt the EHDS Regulation, and its publication in the Official Journal is expected in the Autumn. The EHDS Regulation will then become applicable in different stages in accordance to use case and data type.
