EU: Commission launches whistleblower tools for DSA and DMA
On April 30, 2024, the European Commission announced that it launched two whistleblower tools for the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
The Commission outlined that the tools allow individuals to provide, without fear of reprisals, information to identify and uncover harmful practices of Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) or Search Engines (VLOSEs) designated under the DSA, or any violations of the obligations of gatekeepers under the DMA. The information can be provided anonymously or not, in any of the EU official languages and in any format. The privacy and security of the tools will be guaranteed through encryption and certification by independent parties.
The Commission further clarified that complaints can be lodged before national Digital Services Coordinators for DSA violations and dedicated Commission contact points or to Member States national competition authorities for DMA violations.
