Egypt: Ministers discuss technology arrangements for hosting COP27

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology ('MCIT') released, on 7 February 2022, a statement noting that the Minister of Environment and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology ('the Minister of ICT') had been discussing technology arrangements for hosting the UN Climate Change Conference ('COP27') in Egypt later in 2022. In particular, the MCIT stated that in their meeting, the ministers discussed technological requirements that the MCIT will work to implement in time for COP27, as well as developing plans to confront any challenges that may be encountered during the conference.

Furthermore, the Minister of ICT noted that both ministries have been working to protect the environment in various regions in Egypt with the use of ICT solutions, such as developing policies for the safe disposal of electronic and medical waste and reviewing requirements for licensing the construction of cell towers.
