Egypt: MCIT announces adoption of proposal to form Arab AI team

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Egypt ('the MCIT') announced, on 18 December 2019, that the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers adopted the Egyptian proposal ('the Proposal') to form an Arab Artificial Intelligence ('AI') Team. In particular, the MCIT stated that the team will be entitled to develop a unified Arab strategy, adopt regulatory frameworks for leveraging AI, and come up with a guidance document for ATICM Member States, focusing on the best ways to employ these frameworks to serve the goals of the Arab countries. Moreover, the MCIT added that AI is part of the third pillar of the plan for a joint digital Arab community, which aims at integrating advanced technologies in a digital system, and using AI applications to support decision making to provide distinct technical services to help achieve the desired development.
