Denmark: Digitaliseringsstyrelsen appointed as national supervisory authority for regulation of AI

On April 11, 2024, the Danish Digital Agency (Digitaliseringsstyrelsen) announced that it has been appointed as the national supervisory authority for the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) in Denmark as part of implementing the EU's Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act).

The Digitaliseringsstyrelsen highlighted that its role as supervisory authority includes taking on a coordinating role across the competent supervisory authorities in Denmark and cooperating with other member states and the European Commission, including the European AI Office.

Additionally, the Digitaliseringsstyrelsen stated that it had started working on implementing the AI Act, focusing on communicating about the AI Act's requirements and obligations, who the AI Act will cover, etc. The Digitaliseringsstyrelsen also mentioned that it will initiate dialogue with relevant actors and supervisory authorities who will be expected to have a supervisory task in connection with the AI Act.
