Berlin: Berlin Commissioner launches privacy-friendly social media channel

The Berlin data protection authority ('Berlin Commissioner') announced, on 16 February 2022, that it had launched a privacy-friendly social media channel and is now using the microblogging service 'Mastodon' to report on current topics and publications related to data protection. In particular, the Berlin Commissioner stated that interested parties can follow the Berlin Commissioner's activities on this channel at @[email protected]. In this regard, the acting head of department of the Berlin Commissioner noted that in using this channel it aims to show that social networks can be used in accordance with data protection laws.
