Data protection challenges after Brexit
Following a referendum in June 2016, the United Kingdom ('UK') officially withdrew from its membership of the European Union ('EU') on 31 January 2020. The Brexit transition period is set to end on 31 December 2020. Following the UK's exit from the EU, there will be new requirements and challenges for organizations with operations in the UK.
OneTrust DataGuidance has today released its Brexit portal in which key information and developments are collected and updated. Users can now consult frequently asked questions, review applicable laws after the transition period, and identify key risks, and suggested preparation procedures released by supervisory authorities.
The new Brexit portal
The new portal hosts guidance and resources sourced from around the world on how to manage the data protection challenges that the UK's exit from the European Union can pose. In addition, the portal provides easy access to the latest Brexit news and privacy-related commentary as well as the Data Protection Act 2018 as it currently stands and the upcoming UK GDPR amendments.
Users can now:

- Consult FAQs and consider required actions such as appointing UK/EU representatives, alternative transfer mechanisms, and updating documentation
- Monitor the latest developments including the adequacy status of the UK
