USA: Platinum Hospitalists notifies OCR of data security incident

Platinum Hospitalists LLP notified, on 27 May 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ('HHS') Office for Civil Rights ('OCR') of a data security incident affecting 6,000 individuals. In particular, Platinum Hospitalists stated that it had experienced a phishing incident on its email server, and that messages in the affected mailbox contained individually identifiable information.

Despite the investigation carried out, Platinum Hospitalists explained that the forensic investigation was not able to determine what, if any, data had actually been compromised, and further noted that information in the affected emails included patient names, dates of birth, dates of service, diagnosis and procedure codes, medical record numbers/patient account numbers, insurance identification numbers, and invoiced amounts.

You can read the notice here and access details on the OCR portal here.
