USA: NSA releases guidance on visibility and analytics in zero trust framework

On May 30, 2024, the National Security Agency (NSA) published, a Cybersecurity Information Sheet (CSI), providing guidance on how to enhance visibility and analytics within the Zero Trust (ZT) framework.

What are the main elements of the CSI?

The CSI emphasizes the role of visibility and analytics in the ZT framework, highlighting that these elements provide insights for identifying and mitigating potential security risks, responding to emerging cyber threats, and ensuring that only authorized users and devices access sensitive resources.

How to enhance visibility and analytics

In particular, the CSI explains that organizations can take the following actions to advance visibility and analytics within the ZT framework:

  • logging all relevant activity;

  • centralizing security information and event management;
  • regularly using security and risk analytics;
  • developing user and entity behavior analytics; and
  • integrating threat intelligence, and automating dynamic policies.

According to the CSI, implementing the above measures ensures prompt detection and response to cybersecurity threats, enabling threat hunting, forensics, accelerated investigations, and compliance support.
