Uganda: PDPO hosts training session on enforcement of Data Protection and Privacy Act

The Personal Data Protection Office ('PDPO') announced, on 15 June 2022, via Twitter, that it had hosted a training session on the enforcement of Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019. In particular, OneTrust DataGuidance confirmed with Mr. Baker Birikujja, Manager of Licensing and Legal Affairs at the PDPO, who opened the training on behalf of the National Personal Data Protection Director that, during the training session, prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions were instructed on how to prosecute data protection offences of a criminal nature. Furthermore, Birikujja highlighted that, the training session were further used as an opportunity to sensitise prosecutors on the Data Protection and Privacy Act and the work of the PDPO.
