Uganda: Newly operational PDPO requires data collectors, processors, and controllers to register by December 2021

The Personal Data Protection Office ('PDPO') issued, on 2 November 2021, a press release highlighting that it had been operationalised in August 2021 following the passage of the Data Protection and Privacy Regulations, 2021 and is now requiring data collectors, processors, and controllers to register on its website. In particular, the PDPO highlighted that it is providing a grace period up to the end of December 2021 to allow for the registration process by all relevant organisations and persons, adding that it will begin enforcement measures against organisations and persons who have not registered in January 2022.

Furthermore, the PDPO outlined that it had development a guidance note to assist organisations in the registration procedure.
