Turkey: KVKK announces data breach

The Turkish data protection authority ('KVKK') announced, on 18 August 2020, a data breach suffered by Elektronik Yayıncılık ve İletişim Hiz. Inc. In particular, the KVKK highlighted that the breach was detected by a consultant serving as a supplier to on 12 August 2020 and was communicated to an employee of informing them that a file allegedly holding the information of 50,000 members of the website had been uploaded to a website on that day. In addition, the KVKK noted that the violation had occurred on 10 August 2020 and that personal data affected by the breach included, among other things, email addresses, passwords, names and surnames, and dates of birth. Furthermore, the KVKK outlined that the breach affected 40,955 people and 55,149 records.
