Turkey: KVKK announces Arçelik data breach

On June 1, 2023, the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) announced that Arçelik A.Ş. had suffered a data breach. In particular, the KVKK highlighted that Arçelik notified the KVKK of a data breach, in accordance with Article 12(5) of the Law on Protection of Personal Data No. 6698.

Moreover, the KVKK noted that, according to the breach notification, the breach occurred due to a security vulnerability in the supplier systems hosting the Arçelik Bizbize mobile app and website. On this, the KVKK specified that unauthorized access was gained to personal data, affecting approximately 30,373 individuals, including sales representatives and authorized service personnel. More in detail, the KVKK reported that the breached data includes identity information, contact details, transaction security data, and other relevant information.
