Turkey: KVKK announces amendments to the Law on Protection of Personal Data come into force

On June 1, 2024, the Personal Data Protection Authority (KVKK) announced via LinkedIn that the amendments to the Law on Protection of Personal Data (the Law) approved on March 12, 2024, came into force on June 1, 2024.

The KVKK highlighted the main amendments to the Law, including:

  • specific conditions for processing special category data, as well as the need to take adequate measures when processing this type of data; and
  • changes in the conditions for international data transfers in alignment with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), allowing for new methods of transferring personal data abroad while protecting data subject's rights.
