Togo: National Assembly adopts draft decree on new data protection authority

The National Assembly announced, on 9 December 2020, that it had adopted a draft decree on the organisation and functioning of the body for the protection of personal data ('IPDCP'). In particular, the National Assembly noted that the IPDCP will have powers of investigation, intervention, and enforcement enabling it to support the Government's policy on the protection of personal data. In addition, the IPDCP also guarantees that any processing of personal data must respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals, as well as the interests of the State, local authorities, companies, and other legal entities.
