Togo: Data protection law published in Official Gazette

The Official Gazette of the Togolese Republic published, on 29 October 2019, Law No. 2019-014 Relating to the Protection of Personal Data ('the Law'). In particular, the purpose of the Law is to regulate the collection, processing, transmission, storage, and use of personal data. Moreover, the Law creates a national data protection authority. The Law also defines, among other things, personal data, sensitive data, data controller, and data processor. In addition, the Law outlines the key principles that will govern data processing which include, consent and legitimacy, lawfulness, accuracy, transparency, confidentiality, as well as security.
