Thailand: MDES addresses personal data protection measures in insurance sector

On December 1, 2023, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) convened a meeting in collaboration with the Office of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC), the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC), and members of the insurance business network to discuss the prevention of personal data violations in the insurance sector.

What were the outcomes of the meeting?

The meeting resulted in three key outcomes:

  • establishment of the OIC Center (PDPC Eagle Eye) to monitor and supervise personal data violations within the insurance sector;
  • development of guidelines for the insurance industry, ensuring the protection of personal data; and
  • intensify supervision for relevant personnel in the insurance sector, incorporating personal data protection laws into license application and renewal processes for agents, brokers, and similar roles.
