Tanzania: Personal Information Protection Bill submitted to Parliament

The Tanzania Communications Authority ('TCRA') announced, on 8 September 2022, that the Personal Information Protection Bill had been submitted to Parliament, and is expected to undergo its first reading by the same this month. In particular, the TCRA summarised the announcement from the Ministry of Information, Communications, and Information Technology, Hon. Nape Moses Nnuaye, noting that the bill, once it becomes law, will guarantee the security of data and personal information of users of online communication services. Furthermore, Nnuaye outlined that the law borrows from experiences of other countries with a similar law in place.
