Switzerland: FDPIC releases 30th annual report for 2022/2023
On June 26, 2023, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) released its 30th annual report for 2022/2023, announcing the strengthening of the FDPIC's work through the revised Data Protection Act, which becomes effective on September 1, 2023.
The FDPIC noted that its efforts to ensure a smooth transition to the new law are proceeding as planned, with a continuously updated website and operational reporting portals. The FDPIC outlined its plans to gradually increase the number of formal investigations and utilize resources efficiently, including the publication of a factsheet for ethical hackers. Moreover, the FDPIC raised concerns about the effect of monitoring devices, leading to a recommendation for restraint in their usage. Additionally, the FDPIC plans to publish a list of exemptions permitted under specific federal acts, addressing growing concerns regarding exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act.
