Spain: AEPD publishes 2021 Social Responsibility Report
The Spanish data protection authority ('AEPD') published, on 21 June 2022, its 2021 Social Responsibility Report, outlining the work carried out in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals ('SDGs'). In particular, the report outlines, among other things, that the AEPD has reached a level of 89% compliance on the 103 actions specified in its Social Responsibility Plan 2019-2024, highlighting the SDGs of focus, i.e. SDG 5 on the equality between gender and empowerment of all women, SDG 16 on the promotion of just, peaceful, and inclusive societies, and SDG 17 on a global partnership for sustainable development.
Additionally, the report states the AEPD's work on innovation, including the launch of the Digital Pact for the Protection of People in 2021, aiming at fostering a commitment to privacy in the business models of companies, by promoting transparency so that citizens know what data is being collected and for what purposes.
