South Korea: PIPC updates program to delete minor's personal data

On May 22, 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that its Eraser Service project marked its first year of completion. The PIPC stated that the project aims to support deleting posts, photos, and videos made by children and adolescents that contain personal information. The PIPC highlighted that 17,148 applications have been received from users who would like personal data deleted and 16,518 applications have been processed. Moving forward, the PIPC announced changes to the program including increasing the age for application to the program to 30 years of age from the previous limit of 24 years of age. Also, the PIPC mentioned that the age range eligible for deletion support is expanded from the previous under 18 years of age to under 19 years of age.
