South Korea: PIPC and Ministry of Science discuss use of personal information in autonomous vehicles

On July 31, 2024, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced that, along with the Ministry of Science, it held an on-site visit and discussion meeting to listen to the difficulties and suggestions of the autonomous driving industry. Notably, the PIPC presented the 'Policy Direction for the Use of Image Data for the Development of the Artificial Intelligence Industry.'

The meeting involved a discussion on the difficulties and suggestions of autonomous driving companies, including questions related to video information safety measures standards, autonomous driving research and development, and the use of public data. The PIPC further stated that it would actively support the resolution of uncertainties in industrial sites by opening a one-stop corporate innovation support window in August.
