Slovenia: Commissioner updates guidelines addressed to event organisers

The Information Commissioner announced, on 7 February 2023, the publication of updated guidelines addressed to event organisers. In particular, the Commissioner explained that organisers of seminars, conferences, workshops, congresses, and similar events must comply with data protection legislation when obtaining and using participants' personal data and pay attention to how to legally obtain participants' personal data, how to inform participants appropriately, what conditions apply; and how long to keep the data obtained. In practice, the Commissioner observed that many organisers do not provide sufficient information to individuals about why they need certain personal data, which data is required and which is not, under what conditions it can be published, and what rights participants have.

Further to the above, and in light of the entry into force of the Personal Data Protection Act 2022 ('ZVOP-2'), the guidelines break down the obligations of event organisers when collecting and using personal data, providing useful guidance and practical examples to ensure that the protection of personal data is adequately ensured.

You can read the announcement here and the guidelines here, both only available in Slovenian.
