Shandong: Communications Administration carries out corrective actions for apps infringing on users' rights and interests

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China ('MIIT') announced on, 10 November 2021, that the Shandong Provincial Communications Administration, in response to prominent problems such as the illegal collection of personal information, and infringement of user rights and interests, has organised and carried out special rectification actions for apps infringing on users' rights and interests. In particular, the MIIT noted that the Shandong Administration actively recommends that app service providers and app distribution service providers earnestly carry out self-examination and self-correction, and rectify problems in a timely manner. Notably, the MIIT highlighted that in order to encourage enterprises to make serious rectifications, the Shandong Administration has increased the handling and exposure of various app violations in accordance with Chinese laws. Specifically, the MIIT detailed that apps and operating entities that fail to complete the rectification requirements in the specified timeframe will face measures such as their removal from app shelves, disconnected access, and inclusion on a list of entities that have bad telecommunications business operations, or are untrustworthy.
