Serbia: Poverenik issues statement on designation of company representatives
The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection ('Poverenik') issued, on 4 August 2022, a statement explaining that two companies have designated their representative for the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with the Law on Protection of Personal Data 2018 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 87/2018) ('the Law'). In particular, the Poverenik noted that the same or another person may address the representative, besides/instead of these companies, regarding all issues related to the processing of personal data in order to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Law.
Moreover, the Poverenik appeals to other foreign companies that have the obligation to appoint their representative in the Republic of Serbia, in accordance with the Law, to fulfil the same obligation and thus show awareness of the obligation to respect the rule of law and privacy of their users.
