Serbia: Poverenik issues notice on unified information system of information booklets

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection ('Poverenik') issued, on 17 November 2022, a notice regarding the unified information system of information booklets. In particular, the Poverenik noted that, with the amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance No. 120/2004, as amended ('the Law'), the legal deadline for public authorities to create an information booklet in the unified information system of information booklets has expired. Moreover, the Poverenik highlighted that the system enables every internet user to obtain information on the works of all government bodies, including provincial and local self-government bodies, public companies, institutions, companies whose founders or majority board members are other state authorities, and local community offices.

In addition, the Law provides that public authorities have the obligation to publish information regarding their work, including the organisational structure, contact information, the types of information in possession, such as the contents of databases and registers handled by the authority, and the types of information to which the authority provides access to. Further to this, the Law highlights that the system is managed and maintained by the Poverenik.

You can read the statement here, download the Law here, and access the system here, the latter two only available in Serbian.
